Thigh high boots – good or bad?

Winter is heading our way and that means that boots are making a comeback in seasonal footwear fashion. Every Winter sees boots return to retailer’s shelves, replacing the sandals of summer and preparing for the cooler temperatures and harsher conditions that will soon engulf the country. There are lots of different styles to choose from, and with fashion in all areas becoming more daring thanks to the extravagant styles of icons such as Lady Gaga, there are some very interesting variations for 2011. Thigh high boots have always existed, although when exactly they were popular can’t really be pinpointed. Now, however, there are more knee and thigh high boots than ever working their way onto the market. The question is, are they going to be a fashion must-have or a huge faux pas?

As with any style, the thing about thigh high boots is that they have to be worn in the right way in order to work. Thigh high boots are effectively tights or leggings with a base and a heel – they have to be skin tight and cling closely to your leg in order to allow adequate movement and in case you want to wear something over the top of them. Thigh highs should only be paired with skirts or shorts – wear them with trousers and you’re pretty much defying the point by covering them up. The most important thing to stress with thigh high boots is that you really, truly should not wear them if you are quite short and have short legs. Thigh high boots will simply make you look even shorter, a truly unflattering look that you will definitely regret. Thigh highs can be pulled off only by those with long slender legs, and even then it is somewhat of a risk. If you’re willing to take that risk, then go ahead – but be cautious! The jury is still out.
